I have had my Iphone for a while but I have not been using it to its full potential, until now! I have started to pack up my classroom (makes me sad to do) and since I won't be a regular classroom teacher next year I am sorting through my stuff and taking only what is absolutely necessary to my new school and packing up the rest to store at home. All this packing led me to the problem of what to do with all my books. I love books and I have a ton of them, really what teacher doesn't have a ton. I don't want to take all of them with me to the new school, but I also know I will really want a book and not know where it is. So back to the point of my Iphone. I have been looking for an online book catalog. That is when I came across the app Book Retriever. I read about and the reviews were mixed so at first I was a little hesitant. The app was on .99 cents so I figured I would just go for it. The app has been very helpful to me so far and I have only been using it for less then a day. I am able to scan the ISBN bar code and many of the books automatically go into my library. If the book is unknown when the bar code is scanned you just enter the Title and Author. I recruited some of my students to help me sort out the books with bar codes and the without bar codes I started with the books with bar codes because they are easier to input. Books that do not have a bar code need to be manually inputted so I am saving those for last :). The app has some great features but I have not had the time to explore all of them. I am hoping to get some pictures up here to show you the wonderful things the app has to offer.

After seven years in the same district I have made the decision to leave my current position to move to another school district and serve as a reading specialist. This was a difficult decision because I love where I work but wanted the opportunity to grow. I began my search for assistant principal and principal positions in December. They were not hiring for those positions until April or May and that was not an option for me since my contract was due in March. I happened to see an ad in the paper for a job fair and I took the plunge and went. They interviewed me that day and then again a week or so later. Everything happens for a reason I guess. The change is going to be a hard one for me. I started to pack up my classroom little by little but the memories in that classroom made it difficult to do much. As for the blog, I plan to continue to keep it up but will have to see how it goes.
